Irish American Patrick Michael Redmond, M.A., now 76, of Patrick Redmond
Design [PatrickRedmondDesign.com], Saint Paul, Minnesota, was honored with a round of
applause during the “Milestones” segment of the PIM 2026 Star Awards ceremony when the
following related milestone announcement remarks were delivered from the podium by a PIM
spokesperson:
"This is the 60th year since Patrick M. Redmond, M.A., of Patrick Redmond Design,
Saint Paul, Minnesota, began working in the field. As an award-winning, leading creative,
he expresses his appreciation and gratitude for the many great printers he has worked
with over the decades who have provided exceptional printing for hundreds of projects
for a wide range of clients both through his former corporate positions and through his
business. He is an enthusiastic, longtime advocate of the graphic arts, graphic design,
creative art and design education, innovation, and the printing and paper industries."
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patrick, a 1968 Pius XI Catholic High School, Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, alumnus [https://www.piusxi.org/]— also attended Children’s Art Program classes at
the then-new Eero Saarinen-designed Milwaukee Art Center (Milwaukee Art Museum)
Milwaukee County War Memorial Center [https://mam.org/info/wmc/] overlooking Lake
Michigan.
As a further testament to his longevity in the field and relative significance of his career,
he says he is proud — as an Irish American — to be included in the national Scholastic Art and
Writing Awards Centennial timeline (at the year 1965).
A longtime Minnesota resident, since 1968, Patrick is a former MCAD (Minneapolis
College of Art and Design) student (1968-1970) [https://www.mcad.edu/alumni/patrick-
redmond]. He received a Bachelor’s degree (1973) and a Master of Arts degree (1990) from the
University of Minnesota.
He is a former AIGA Chapter President, former Board Member, and former longtime
member of AIGA Minnesota, formerly known as the MGDA, Minnesota Graphic Designers
Association [https://aigaminnesota.org/about/]. AIGA, known for decades as the American
Institute of Graphic Arts, is now known as “the professional association for design”™ (see
https://www.aiga.org/our-story). Patrick has served as one of the PIM Star Awards competition
judges during various years.
Among a variety of professional distinctions, he is the former [creative] Art Director, Art
and Design Group, Norwest Corporate Graphics, Norwest Corporation (Norwest is now known
as Wells Fargo), where he worked in the then-new Norwest Center skyscraper (designed by
César Pelli, César Pelli & Associates) in downtown Minneapolis. This creative leadership
position was announced as a cover story in national graphic design publication GDUSA.com,
”Norwest banks on Redmond for in-house design group,” Graphic Design: USA, New York, Vol.
