Publishers Note:
This is the first of many articles that will appear thru 2025 about my recent trip to Ireland to check out some of the things that are available to our readers.
Starting off on the right foot, I visited this location and I am happy to recommend this property as a wonderful place to stay.
Best,

History
Originally part of the Duke of Devonshire’s estate, The Retreat’s story stretches back to the early 1800s. The Sullivan family of Bandon owned the property for around 70 years, and it was once home to Anne Winifred Grosvenor (née Sullivan), Duchess of Westminster. In 1919, P.J. O’Driscoll Sr., a local lawyer, purchased the estate, and it has remained in the O'Driscoll family for over a century, last home to the late P.J. O'Driscoll Jnr, his wife Miriam and their four children who represent the 4th generation. In 2022, after her husband’s passing, Miriam O'Driscoll, along with her children Valerie and Edward, transformed the estate into The Retreat Country House, preserving its legacy and welcoming guests to enjoy this historic home.Details
