Clanna is a Northern Irish singer/song writer from County Armagh who has been singing and performing from a young age.  She grew up in a musical family in which traditional Irish and Country music played a major part of her life and went on to travel around the UK and Europe in her family folk band The Hanna Sisters, writing and performing at festivals. She is an award winning song writer and co-wrote a song about families affected by knife crime in London which was the first song the British government ever released. She also penned a great Irish anthem called ‘We are the Irish’ for the Irish Olympic Team.

Clanna released her successful album ‘Surprisingly Grounded’ earlier this year and her original song ‘You stood by my side (mind)’ was inspired after hearing a family friend describe the trauma of not being able to visit her mum in a Care Home for many months because of the coronavirus restrictions in Care Homes. The single was recorded and produced by Paul McNeilly at Pinegrove studio.

The single and video are being used to front the campaign for all the residents and their families who have been separated from their loved ones since the COVID lockdown in Care Homes for nearly nine months now. The families are campaigning to end the loneliness and emotional turmoil for their loved ones in the Care Homes as they watch the deterioration of their mental and physical health. The families strongly feel that there needs to be a balance that is proportionate and manages the risks associated with covid –good use of infection prevention control measures, testing and appropriate PPE.

To support their cause you can sign an online petition at Change.Org .  Martina Ferguson (Derry) who leads a Dementia Relatives Care Support group started the online petition recently and is working with Care Home Advice and Support NI (CHASNI) led by Julieann McNally.  Julieann, Martina and families need as many signatures as possible and hopefully the NI Executive will help enforce Care Partners for our very vulnerable in Care Homes.  Care Partners for Residents in Care Homes was endorsed by the NI Executive and DOH 23 Sept (recent Government Guidance) and 9 weeks on - very few Care Homes have implemented Care Partners for residents and their families.
