Himself & Nora, American Musical Reading of
James Joyce & Nora Barnacle to Play Ireland for Bloomsday Celebration

Composer Jonathan Brielle (Nightmare Alley, Foxfire) is exporting some of Broadway’s best talent for a musical reading of Himself and Nora during the Bloomsday Festival in Ireland this year at the Mill Theater, DunDrum from June 15 – 17th in association with the James Joyce Center, Dublin, Ireland

Himself and Nora is a volatile love story where “sparks fly.” It is the story of James Joyce and Nora Barnacle, his rock and portable Ireland throughout their tumultuous lives, and brings new perspective to Joyce veterans and a grand introduction to the uninitiated.
The American cast, anchored by Broadway veteran Matt Bogart (Miss Saigon, Aida) as the hell-raising, hard drinking, brilliant Joyce; and Kaitlin Hopkins (The Grinch Who Stole Xmas, Noises Off: Batboy: The Musical) as Nora, the strong, passionate teacher of love; also features Jim Price (The Civil War) and Kate Chapman (Les Miserables) as supporting cast.
This expanded reading follows last year’s highly acclaimed “composer’s reading” held at the James Joyce Center, Dublin on Bloomsday June 16, 2007. The Mill Theatre event extends the Bloomsday festivities to the greater Dublin community of James Joyce fans city wide and from around the world who indulge their curiosity of the great author on the anniversary of his meeting of Nora Barnacle each year.

In 2005, playwright Sheila Walsh and composer/lyricist Brielle, first premiered Himself and Nora at the Old Globe Theatre in California to rave reviews. Joel Hirschhorn of Daily Variety-- the American bible of show business --said, “James Joyce is a great character… a hell raising, hard drinking, sexually uninhibited wild man. What’s more… Nora is strong and exciting enough to justify Joyce’s lifelong passion. Between the two of them sparks fly. There’s enough meaty material here for a Great White Way hit.”

Performances of the work by will begin with a matinee performance at 3 PM Sunday June 15, followed by three evening performances at 8 PM June 15,16 &17.
