Stones in His Pockets, May 2 - 25, at McAninch Arts Center

Two actors bring 15 characters to life by quicksilver changes in dialects and even gender in Buffalo Theatre Ensemble’s hilarious comedy, Stones in His Pockets, May 2 - 25, at McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

Directed by Bryan Burke, the play is about an Irish village beset (and enthralled) by the filming of a cheesy Hollywood epic. Actors Henry Odum and William “Sandy” Smillie change gender and character on a dime. Each is gifted in dialects, switching at top speed from Irish to Southern (American) to British to regular American to Scottish to Cockney.

There is a Hollywood rumor that the play was written by Marie Jones as a veiled lampoon of Ron Howard's filming of Far and Away, with one of the characters, American superstar Caroline Giovanni, standing in for actor Tom Cruise.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets range from $27 - $30 with discounts for students and seniors. Go to www.AtTheMac.org or call 630-942-4000.
