New Chicago Hurling Club For American Players

The Michael Cusack Hurling Club of Chicago, IL has formally been established. This is the first club in the Chicagoland area that is comprised of all American born players to play the Irish sport of Hurling. The club will be playing its first matches on April 19th, 2008 at Chicago Gaelic Park against clubs from all across America. Matches will be played through out the summer including appearances at festivals and tournaments throughout the Midwest. The MCHC will also be attending the North American Championships in Boston over Labor Day weekend.

With the health of the Irish economy, fewer immigrants are taking up residence in the U.S. The future of the sport is in American players and clubs that are able to field purely American teams. Hurling clubs are a growing trend in the U.S. as evidenced by the creation of all American clubs as well as national competitions for only those clubs.

The club is, at present, seeking non-playing members, supporters, sponsors and American born players. All those who are interested in playing, aiding, or sponsoring the Michael Cusack Hurling Club, or those interested in more information, should contact the club at cusackhurling@gmail.com.
